ADDIS ABABA – The former champions Dedebit who formally withdrew from the Ethiopian Premier League (EPL) last week citing financial constraints returned to the league after the sponsors released the money needed to complete the season’s competition.
This is very unusual act for a premier league side. They submitted their application of withdrawal for the Ethiopian Football Federation last week and they were forced to concede a 3-0 defeat on forfeiture the 24th schedule of the league match at the hands of Wolayita Dicha.. But again they were allowed to return to the league after they wrote a letter claiming that they secured the financial assistant they needed to complete the seasons. Dedebit had tremendous contribution in their 20 or so years existence.
When the country qualified for the Africa Nations Cup in 2013 for the first time in 31 years most of the national players were from their (Dedebit) side. They lifted the EPL in the 2013 season for the first time.
