ADDIS ABABA – The public should work hand and glove with the government to nullify efforts of some groups working to realize their political motives at the expense of innocent people and damaging property, a social science expert said.

Speaking to the local media, the expert Fire Samuel noted that condemning killings of civilians will not bring a solution and members of the public must uphold their collaboration with the government in safeguarding their own peace. “The protection of civilians should not solely be left to the government and every citizen must act upon.”

“Keeping the above in mind, the government should exert meticulous efforts to understand the root causes of the problem thereby averting panic responses and giving an enduring solution to the challenge.” For the past many years the Terrorist TPLF has wrongly shaped the mind-set of the youth and has caused the current problems and the current generation rape what was sowed for the past three decades, Fire added.

As to him, the current government has registered significant successes in overcoming difficult situations and setting up a new administration structure that deserved to be supported by members of the public to transform the country from chaos to stability and disintegration to unity. Furthermore, the incumbent established a National Dialogue Commission with a view to bridging the political polarization and creating a national consensus on basic national issues.

“The establishment of the National Dialogue Commission demonstrates the government’s commitment to address the longstanding contentious problems amicably and the society needs to make positive contributions in the process instead of merely blaming the government.”

There are abundant records for the involvement of local anti-peace elements that have worked with foreign masters in the recent violence, killings and human rights violations of civilians in different parts of the country and the situation needs the collective efforts of all actors. Foreign masters have backed rebel groups and other anti-government elements in a bid to weaken the country. “The problem is not created overnight and it is the result of accumulated, but unsolved grievances and takes time to solve.”

“We need to give time and space to the government rather than making it busy and worsening the situation. We all need to ask ourselves and discharge our role to make the peace initiative successful. The problem that Ethiopia has been currently facing is largely the result of accumulated grievances and some of those issues required negotiations, political dialogue, economic and other interventions,” the expert stressed.
