ADDIS ABABA– Having shouldered the responsibility to defend innocent civilians, the federal government is ready to resolve the problem with the Terrorist TPLF in a peaceful dialogue amidst the latter’s renewed belligerence, the Government Communication Service (GCS) said.

At a press briefing he held yesterday, GCS Minister Legesse Tulu (PhD) stated that the government has an avid commitment to give the problem a political solution and has formed a high-level negotiation committee to this end.

Despite this government’s peace efforts, T-TPLF has continued its callous behavior thereby disregarding the wellbeing of the people of Tigray which it claims to represent and defend.

Noting the radical element called for peace talks as a tactic to get the time to mobilize its force and rebuild war efforts, Legesse indicated that the government has offered the peace opportunity to support the Tigray people, not to T-TPLF. “We would like to reaffirm the commitment of the federal government to launch the peace talk, but it needs acceptance from the opposite side. The opportunity of peace talk has been initiated by the federal government. So, it is T-TPLF’s responsibility to use this open opportunity.”

The federal government urged the outlawed group to restrain from further provocations and warmongering otherwise it would face severe consequences. The government is pursuing a peaceful solution for the problem that the people of Tigray deserve.

About the recent killings of civilians in Oromia and Benshangul Gumuz, the minister highlighted that local terrorists are financed by Ethiopia’s historical enemies who have geopolitical interest and water dispute. The local extremists’ carnage defenseless civilians to avenge the severe loss they have sustained by government forces.

“The rebels are incapable of fighting with the armed forces and that is why they are always targeting civilians. The law enforcement operations that have been carried out in various parts of the country have now brought tangible results in pacifying the restive areas.”
