ADDIS ABABA – As a result of the armed attack against the Tigray Police Walta football side at Gewane, Afar regional state, a player was killed, Police reported.
The armed group who opened fire at the player’s bus are not identified, according to the Police report.
The Coach of Tigray Police Walta side Commander Gebru Kahsay said that the group who attached the bus that was traveling from Addis Ababa through the Afar region were armed with automatic weapons.
He said that this kind of sudden attack against players was little expected prior to the incident. The group dispersed after making fast and dangerous attack.
It was reported that in addition to the death of the player about five players faced serious and light injuries.
