Ethiopian athletes win Hamburg Marathon

ADDIS ABABA – Tadu Abate emerged first at the 34th Hamburg Marathon at a time of two hours 08 minutes and 25 seconds on Sunday leaving behind his compatriot Ayele Abshiro with a time of 2: 08: 26 and Ugandan Stephen Kiprotich with 2: 08:31 to take the second and third places, in the order of that.

In the women’s event Ethiopian Dibabe Kuma came out first clocking two hours 24 minutes and 41 seconds while Kenyan Magdaline Masai with 2: 26: 02 finished second in this race. The third place was won by Tanzanian Failaina Matanga at 2: 27: 52.

The Hamburg Marathon has been the domain of the Ethiopian athletes for long. The winner Tadu Abate collected 25,000 US Dollars. He expressed delight at the end of the gruelling marathon race.
