Congratulatory message of Ambassador of Russia H.E. Mr. EvgenyTerekhin on the occasion of NEW YEAR
The New Year 2014 is approaching. On the eve of the holiday, it is customary to sum up the results of the outgoing year and make plans for the new one.
2013 was a difficult year for Ethiopia. The people of Ethiopia had to make great efforts to prove their rightness to the whole world, to demonstrate unity of spirit and patriotism, to resist serious difficulties, to defend their independence. At the same time, the trials that have befallen Ethiopia have not been able to shake it on the path to progress and comprehensive development.
On behalf of the staff of the Russian Embassy in Ethiopia and on my own, I convey to the people of Ethiopia the warmest congratulations on the New Year 2014. May this year be the embodiment of peace and prosperity for every Ethiopian family. I wish you happiness, good health, love and good luck.
Turkish Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union Yaprak Alp’s New Year’s wish
Turkey and Ethiopia have a very friendly, historic and deep-rooted relationship. We are celebrating the 125th anniversary of our diplomatic relations this year.
Ever since the opening of our first Sub Saharan Embassy in Addis Ababa in 1926, the relations between our two countries have been steadily strengthening. Turkey has always been Ethiopia’s true friend and we will continue to be so.
Turkey is the second biggest investor in the country and Ethiopia is the country in which Turkey invests the most in sub-Saharan Africa, with 2.5 billion USD. We are diligently working with a special emphasis on our ties to Ethiopia, creating job opportunities for more than 25 thousand Ethiopians by increasing the direct flow of Turkish assets and opening new industries in the country.
I wish all the best for all my Ethiopian brothers and sisters for the Ethiopian New Year and hope that brighter days await us all.
Ambassador Robert Shetkintong, Indian Ambassador to Ethiopia
Accompanied by my wife and two young children – Sarah and Raymond – I arrived in this beautiful country 11 months ago. In fact, our children have grown up in East Africa as I had served earlier in Tanzania as India’s Deputy High Commissioner for three and half years between 2015 & 2018. Therefore, we were so comfortable with the region when we arrived in Ethiopia in October last year. For my family, East Africa is our second home.
11 months have gone so fast. I have met, made wonderful friends not only in the government, but also in thebusiness community, in the academia and I have met wonderful people in the streets. Now, I can comfortably say that I have friends from Gondar, Bahir Dar, Kombolcha, DebreBirhan, Semera, Dire Dawa, Adama, ArsiNegele, Hawassa, Dilla, Arba Minch, Ambo, Welkite, Hosana, DambiDollo&Nekemte.
One thing that I learnt from them is that Ethiopian people live and cherish their family bonds, and their connections with relatives, their communities. Many people still maintain connections to their villages.
Every Ethiopian looks forward to this time of the year in September – you have a big holiday period of Ethiopian New Year followedby Meskel. It is this time of the year, when many people who live in different parts of the country to earn their livelihood, as traders, as businessmen, as laborers, as teachers, as office workers – go back to their families and relatives to celebrate this beautiful festival. Families burn the Chibofire, gather to bond around this fireplace, sharing their joys and sorrows.
It is also the time of the year, when the Ethiopian landscape is dressed in its most beautiful golden colors of the AdeyAbebaflower (bright yellow flowers).
There are Indian families that have made Ethiopia their home for the last 4-5 generations. Some families have joined them in recent years. They have established their business here and have contributed to the economic prosperity of this country. For all purpose, they are Ethiopians. They celebrate all Ethiopian festivals including the Ethiopian New Year &Meskel.
On behalf of my fellow citizens in Ethiopia, I wish all my sisters and brothers in Ethiopia a very bright and prosperous New Year and joyous Meskel celebrations.
Stay Blessed!
Barlybay Sadykov, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Ethiopia
The New Year is a time of new hopes, new goals and a desire for a better future. On behalf of the Embassy of Kazakhstan, I would like to congratulate all citizens of Ethiopia on the New Year and wish peace, stability and prosperity to every home.
This year, the New Year celebration coincided with the 10th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and Ethiopia. This is the first milestone of our cooperation, and, it should be noted, it has significantly strengthened over the years. Our countries have established trusting and friendly relations at a high level. The Embassy of Kazakhstan in Addis Ababa holds various events to expand bilateral trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation.
Our countries have a lot in common. Our peoples represent ancient cultures and customs based on peacefulness, tolerance, a global search for truth, as well as a careful attitude to the environment. Our peoples were able to
preserve these ancient values, and now both in Kazakhstan and in Ethiopia we see how our foreign policy reflects all these universal peace-loving values.
I’m pleased to note that this year marks the 30th anniversary of Kazakhstan’s Independence. As well as the Ethiopians, we also very much value this achievement. Kazakhstan is working on the creation of the UN Regional Center for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for Central Asia and Afghanistan in Almaty. For us, the experience of Addis Ababa as one of the UN regional Hubs for Africa is very interesting and useful.
In addition, at the initiative of the First President of Kazakhstan – ElbasyNursultanNazarbayev, projects were implemented to develop regional integration in the Eurasian space. Kazakhstan is the founder of the SCO, the EAEU, the Forum on Security in Asia – CICA. Today, Kazakhstan is an economic leader in Central Asia, and by 2050 it intends to enter the 30 most developed economies in the world.
Today, large-scale political and economic reforms are being conducted in Kazakhstan under the leadership of President K.Tokayev. As Tokayev said in his annual Address to the people on September 1, 2021, «The unity of the people and systemic reforms are a solid foundation for the prosperity of Kazakhstan». He outlined a wide range of measures aimed at improving the welfare of citizens, further democratizing the political system and ensuring the fundamental rights and freedoms of citizens in accordance with the concept of a «Listening state».
Here in Ethiopia, we are also observing the implementation of reforms that are undoubtedly aimed at modernizing the country’s economy, improving the lives of citizens, restoring the unity of the people of Ethiopia, as well as strengthening regional security and sustainable development of the Horn of Africa countries.
We support the desire of the Ethiopian people for peace and prosperity, and intend to further strengthen our friendly ties with Ethiopia.
