Averting atrocities, lootings on civilians

A political party that lacks clear and firm principles is more likely to engage in undermining the coexistence of its people. Such parties are known for their immoral deeds and poor handling of essential matters. Oftentimes, they try to handle matters by force than conducting a productive dialogue.

According to Aregawi Berhe, the former founder of TPLF and the current Chairperson of Tigray Democratic Party, the terrorist TPLF enterprise is a party with no clear principles as well as weak readiness to protect civilians.

When the party faced with incidents that would bring about a positive impact on its political game, it would use it without any hesitation even if it costs the lives of many people. The people of Tigray who have been killed since the party came to power are the best examples in this regard.

Party’s past journey clearly indicated that it had conducted multiple conflicts among various groups and factions. The party is the resemblance of armed conflicts and treacheries acts, as to him.

He further noted that it is this culture that is manifested after the TPLF terrorist group allegedly committed treason against the Ethiopian National Defense Forces in November. In fact, the conflict caused the death and displacement of many civilians.

According to Amnesty International report, hundreds of people were stabbed or hacked to death in Mai-Kadra (May Cadera) Town in the South West Zone of Ethiopia’s Tigray State on the night of 9 November.

The organization’s Crisis Evidence Lab has examined and digitally verified gruesome photographs and videos of bodies strewn across the town or being carried away on stretchers. It also confirmed that the images were recent and using satellite imagery, it relocated them to Mai-Kadra in western Tigray State.

“We have confirmed the massacre of a very large number of civilians, who appear to have been day laborers in no way involved in the ongoing military offensive,’’ said Deprose Muchena, Amnesty International’s Director for East and Southern Africa.

On the other day, the same shocking incident was also witnessed at the Galicoma in Afar State where the remnants of the TPLF terrorist massacring over 240 civilians of which, 107 were children.

Undeniably, though the federal government declared a unilateral ceasefire in its northern Tigray State, TPLF has continued provoking war in the adjacent areas and attacking civilians, especially in Amhara and Afar State.

Following the deliberate attack, many people residing in the nearby areas of Dessie are displaced and sheltered in Dessie town of Amhara State.

To curb the social chaos and show solidarity to the displaced people, the youths living in Dessie town are providing food for the displaced people from the North Wollo zone.

Terhas Kebede is one of the people displaced from Alamata, following the war waged by the terrorist TPLF.

Trehas said that she fled empty handed from her living place, Alamata to an area she is unfamiliar to save her life along with her 16-year-old son though she does not know where he is now because she lost him in the middle of their journey.

As to her, the terrorist group did not only kidnap the youths to deploy them into war but also loot and destroy properties.

“We are here because the terrorist group has hunted us down. I left my home empty handed fearing that they would kill me and my son. I arrived here in Dessie traveling on foot from Alamata. But I lost my 16-year-old son because the terrorists were shooting at us from behind. Now I do not know whether my son is alive or not,” she said sadly.

The other displaced person from Hara town, Yimer Getachew said all of the crimes were perpetrated by the terrorist TPLF group.

He noted that residents of the town fought back to defend the town from the TPLF group for 15 days, however they were attacked with heavy artilleries adding that the terrorist group killed, kidnaped youth and looted properties.

“I am from Hara and I arrived here after going through lots of sufferings. My six children as well as my pregnant wife also came here after days of exhausting journey on foot. We do not want to leave our place and continue living here. We have to combine efforts and destroy the terrorist group.”

Another displaced woman named Beletu Asmare who came from Guba Lafto Woreda, said that the terrorist group has shown its brutality by raping women, shooting young people and looting property.

Alemu Assefa, a resident of Dessie Town told The Ethiopian Herald that following the damage that is caused by the brutal attack of the terrorist enterprise, a burden is imposed on the city and it is facing scarcity of social services. He stressed that the attacks are crimes committed against humanity.

It is to be recalled that the terrorist TPLF started sending human wave of combatants into Afar and Amhara states to attack, kill, rape, and loot the community, following the enactment of unilateral ceasefire. So far, more than 300,000 people have been displaced.
