“Gratitude is the sign of noble souls”

The government of Ethiopia has been executing various COVID-19 pandemic preventing and controlling activities since the first case of the pandemic was detected in the country; and even before.

Ranging from closing all schools to restricting large gatherings and movements of people and advising the public to practice COVID-19 prevention measures such as hand-washing and social distancing using through various media among others, it has been working aggressively to contain the spread of the virus.

Behind these commendable activities, the role health professionals and caregivers have played is incalculable. These professionals by giving priority for the general public and sacrificing their own lives, they have done impressive services.

Valuing their selfless acts, recently Ministry of Health have organized recognition and thanksgiving program for health professionals, caregivers staff and leadership for the relentless efforts and contributions they have exerted in nation’s COVID-19 pandemic prevention and controlling efforts.

 Speaking on the program, Addis Ababa City Administration Deputy Mayor Adanech Abebie, who was guest of honor in the program, said that health practitioners and caregivers among others have been giving selfless and relentless services since the Coronavirus pandemic outbreak in the country. Their self-sacrificing and heroic services would be remembered and heralded in the medical history of the country, and they would live in our hearts forever.

She also expressed her gratitude to the health workers and caregivers who have stood in the frontline given their lives to us during the pandemic.

In times when the country has encountered challenges due to the pandemic those who have discharged their societal responsibility and duties endangering their own lives for the wellbeing of others as well as members of the National Defense Forces who are sacrificing their lives in warfronts to ensure rule of law and uphold the peace and security of the country deserve respect and dignity wherever they are. The country will never forget their selfless sacrifice, she added.

 Health Minister Dr. Lia Tadesse on her part said that while the country was in greater challenges these professionals have stood front and discharged their responsibilities and duties neglecting all the inconveniences that they might came upon.

The Ministry has greater appreciation and recognition for all health professionals who have worked hard standing in the frontline.

The act has shown that the efforts that were employed to raise employees’ motivation and generate qualified professionals as well as to produce compassionate and ethical professionals have bearing fruits and yielding successful results.

The leadership and the entire staff also thanked the senior management of the Ministry of Health for their great efforts in coordinating health professionals and executing commendable activities in the fight against the virus.

The recognition and thanksgiving program will also be carried out nationwide till July 24, 2021 with various programs, Dr. Lia added.
