‘Intent reveals desire; action reveals commitment

In today’s world where giving false hope has become a practice that is exercised simply; and promises remain under-delivered for various reasons, seeing people who honor and keep their words is extremely difficult; and if not exaggerated, it is like searching for a needle in a haystack.

She is one among the few people who are known for taking the initiative; act accordingly and exhibit extraordinary achievements. Being a woman of her own word, she can accomplish a number of activities that seemed to be beyond one’s reach and unachievable in reality.

In the last two years alone, she can turn her promises and objectives into action in a way that looks like a miracle.

“Our First Lady Zinash Tayachew deserves such recognition and award for the construction of twenty schools in almost all regions of across the nation. This has been the first initiative in the country. Still much should be done in the rural areas of Ethiopia. Particularly, the focus should be made to increase enrollment of female students.

Much respect and appreciation should go to First Lady, Zinash Tayachew. Please keep on your efforts.

The First Lady deserves respect and recognition for her contribution in the education sector. No other First Lady has ever this track record in Ethiopia. Thank you dear First Lady.”

This was one of the many comments posted on the web page of the Ministry of Health to appreciate the valorous act of the First Lady, Zinash Tayachew, for her unwavering commitment and devotion.

The comment has been given following the recognition program organized by Ministry of Education to acknowledge First Lady Zinash Tayachew for her keenness and contribution to the education sector.

Without a doubt, the First Lady is a woman of her word. In those too short, but successful years, she can accomplish more than a few exceptional activities. Particularly in a situation where the peace and security of the country is challenged and anti-peace elements are running here and there to tear down the already established infrastructure, the First Lady in unprecedented manner has realized her ambitions and built several high and elementary schools across the country.

First Lady Zinash, during the past two years, has constructed and inaugurated 20 schools and launched the construction of eight new schools. Not only that, but currently she is also nearing to inaugurate a hi-tech boarding school for blind and visually impaired students that has a capacity to accommodate 300 learners.

As it is stated in the recognition ceremony, First Lady Zinash, by constructing and making schools operational in all state; she is playing significant role in country’s education sector.

Speaking on the occasion, President Sahle Work Zewde said realizing the prime role that education can play in transforming a country and betterment the lives of individual citizens, the exemplary act that First Lady Zinash Tayachew has carried out is commendable.

“She is a valiant lady who shows us the successful completion of projects practically; rather than simply laying the foundation. She is a heroine who carried out her dreams with courage and determination being quiet and not saying anything.

Mentioning that absence of schools is one among the many challenges that are observed in the education sector, Dr. Eng. Getahun Mekuria, Education Minster, said that the efforts the First Lady is exerting in constructing and making schools accessible for all has significant contribution to address the problem and it is a laudable activity that deserves recognition.

The construction of schools, apart from curbing the shortage of schools and lightening the sufferings of students from trekking long distances, it encourages them to attend their class in the nearby areas and achieve their dreams.

He also extended his appreciation to the First Lady.

Handing over the award prepared by Ministry of Education to First Lady Zinash, President Sahle Work urged all government and non-government organizations and investors to follow the footsteps of the Office of the First Lady and support the education sector.

In fact, her strong commitment and dedication has led the First Lady to success- to realize her dream in an incomparable manner.

Since the past two years, First Lady Zinash has constructed schools both secondary and primary schools almost in all states including the two city administrations.

Secondary schools built in various parts of the country, such as Ifa Liben, in Oromia State, Dubti in Afar, Gambella Berhan in Gambella, Jigjiga Ilays in Somalia, Sahela Berhan in Amhara, Banqo Dadatu, in the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples State are just a handful examples that have been undertaken by First Lady Zinash Tayachew within the last two years.

State-of the-art boarding school which is under construction in the capital Addis Ababa for blind and visually impaired students and Children’s Village are also the other success history of the First Lady.

The move, unquestionably, lessen the burden of those students, particularly living in rural areas, and travelling far distances to classes, it lowers the rate of dropouts, and class repetition that are caused by unavailability of schools in nearby areas. Most importantly, it addresses the challenges that are witnessed in the education sector thereby move country’s education sector forward.
