ADDIS ABABA- Ethiopia’s Ambassador to Germany Mulu Solomon held a virtual meeting with a German politician of the Alliance 90/The Greens/ Katrin Langensiepen, who is also a Member of the European Parliament on Ethiopia’s current situations.
The two sides exchanged views on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), the border dispute with Sudan, the situation in Tigray and the forthcoming sixth National Elections.
Ambassador Mulu told Langensiepen, that government’s law enforcement operation in Tigray State has huge importance for not only neutralizing Ethiopia’s peace and stability threat, but also curtailing the aim of making the Horn of Africa a hub for terrorist elements. So far, 4.5 million people have the access to humanitarian aid in the state and the government has a lion share in contributing 70 percent of the support meanwhile the balance is covered by international aid agencies and NGOs.
The ambassador assured the MP that the Ethiopian government is taking all allegations on human rights abuses seriously and the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission is tasked to make an independent investigation in a collaboration with Africa’s institutes.
About the GERD, she stated that Ethiopia has a firm belief in an equitable and fair utilization of Nile waters and it has carried out the construction of the dam in accordance of international principles and without causing significant harm to the downstream countries. Ethiopia works to reach a consensus with the negotiating parties and strongly belief that the AU-led GERD talks would bring a positive outcome.
“Ethiopia is ready to solve the problem in peaceful and democratic manner, “Ambassador Mulu said, adding that the Sudanese invading army should leave Ethiopian territories and return where it was before November 6, 2020 unconditionally,
The parties also discussed on ways to collaborate to make the upcoming National Elections free, fair, and democratic elections.
Langensiepen on her part acknowledged the success Ethiopia has witnessed in mitigating climate change.
She also reiterated Germany’s support to Ethiopia in the latter’s engagement to democratization, protection of social rights, women’s, and human rights arena.
