While the government is trying to preserve the peace and stability of the nation within the last three years several anti-peace elements and their cliques have been using all the available means to distract the stability of the nation. The TPLF junta was one and major challenge of the Federal government.
Using its age old propaganda together with its gang leaders, the junta has tried to reverse the reformation and democratization movement of the country. However, its attempt has become futile when the National Defense Forces together with skilled leadership has taken a serious and law enforcement operation.
Following the operation, the junta has totally crushed irretrievably. However, the destructions that are caused due to its warmongering nature have put the innocent civilians at the mercy of help.
Various sources indicate that hundreds of thousands of people are in need of help. In this regard, as part of its effort for systematic approach to address the problem, the government has established an emergency coordination center and four-layered emergency coordination. Consequently, food and nonfood assistances, medical and hygienic kits are being transported and distributed in all area. Principally, by prioritizing children, women and elderly people, the government, along with other stakeholders, is distributing the humanitarian assistance accordingly.
As it was indicated by the government, due to COVID-19 related cases, the international community is not stretching its help as it used to be. However, using all available means, the government together with humanitarian organizations, are doing their level best to support those people who need humanitarian help in the Tigray State.
The YMCA Ethiopia (The Young Men`s Christian Association) on its part is showing unreserved commitment to support to the people who need humanitarian support.
According to Association Director, Dagmawi Selamsa, using all the available means, YMCA is trying to address the needy. YMCA is not only confined in Tigray State. It is also trying its level best to provide necessary help in adjusting areas.
As a global movement, YMCA has notified the global community to stretch hands to support to the people who have now become victims. ‘A problem shared is a problem solved’. In this regard, YMCA is trying to get all the necessary support from donors and other stakes. “We are calling out to the global community and positive result is registered. Some of our donors have already stretched their hands.
Seeing the magnitude of the problem and the availability of transportation, YMCA has been working in Mekelle. Using our members, the Association has provided the first and second round support in Mekelle where several internal displaced people are found. Within those two rounds, the Association has provided food, potable water and other emergency items to the needy.
Whenever humanitarian crisis break out, money or food might be the most important things. But, there is one important factor. Having volunteers who are willing to scarify their interest for the sake of others is a good resource. In this regard, YMCA has dispatched its members to Mekelle and other areas. Using this young volunteer Ethiopians, the Association together with other stakeholders is providing humanitarian support in the State. The next step of the Association will be moving into Adwa and Aksum.
According to Dagmawi, hand in hand with emergency response program, the Association is also trying its level best to provide psychological support to the people who need humanitarian help and creating job opportunities to those youth. In this regard, YMCA is arranging a life skill training targeting to help the youths based on all the available resources they have at hand. In this regard, YMCA is working to create an opportunity by working other stakeholders.
Dagmawi also indicated that, while the rehabilitation activities are carried out in the State, YMCA also have a vision to work with the interim government to engage in sustainable development activities that benefit the youth. Using the past experience in the State and other areas, the Association is keen to work with the youths and convert their skill and knowledge to national development.
Dagmawi said that, Ethiopianism has difference faces. Supporting one another in times of crisis is one of its faces. When humanitarian help is supported in a coordinated and organized way, it eases the process. The past months were very challenging to the global community. For this reason, we Ethiopians should further join hands to help our brothers and sisters. The global community should further support the activities of local NGOs in this regard.
