
ADDIS ABABA- The construction of the new Addis City Library, which is unique in its kind, is progressing well, disclosed Addis Ababa Construction Bureau.
The Addis Ababa Construction Bureau Deputy Head Eng. Afework Nigussie told The Ethiopian Herald that the Addis City Library launched in Nov 2019 and expected to add beauty to the capital Addis Ababa, is underway in line with the schedule.
The construction of the five-story building with underground complex reaches 20 percent and would be finalized in 2021.
Situated on 18,500 meter square, the library would have a 1.5 kilo meter book shelf length in side and would serve from Nursery to Ph.D level students accommodating 5000-6000 persons at a time.
The project is being contracted by Varnero Construction Company that sets high value to standards.
The facility also hosts separate car parking, Amphi Theater, restaurants and others. The project has so far created employment opportunities for about 500 people.
The initial capital of the project is 1.1 Billion Birr and would be equipped with Wifi, data center, digital and analog facilities. Books will be available in soft and hard copies.
Located near at the heart of the city and near to Parliament, Sheger Park and Office of the Prime Minister , the location of the facility will be convenient for clients, he said.
