ADDIS ABABA-The National Museum of Ethiopia located in Addis Ababa is undergoing renovation and maintenance works at a cost of two million Birr. The renovation work has started in late March 2020.
Museum Directorate Director Ephrem Amare, who spoke with The Ethiopian Herald, says that the Museum has not received renovation for the last fifty years since its commencement.
The Museum has been open for visitors all the time including holiday day and it has been in need of a swift renovation. This would give the Museum a modern look and allure more visitors besides preserving the heritage which is home to various treasures including Lucy.
The two million Birr renovation work is being carried out by local heritage innovators. The works include cleaning the monuments and maintaining the roofs.
“The ongoing works will help improve better service and preserve monuments in a better way.”
The Museum would be equipped with digital technologies that help the real monuments using digital displays. The renovation work is expected to be completed in September 2020.
