ADDIS ABABA – A group of six Ethiopian children have recovered from life-saving heart procedures at the Wolfson Medical Center in Israel.The families also arrived here along with 23 boxes of vital medical equipment for the Children’s Cardiac Center in Ethiopia.
The children had also been screened by Save a Child’s Heart ( SACH) volunteer medical team before departed to Israel .The families were sent off with warm messages from the Ethiopian ambassador to Israel, who answered questions they had about being placed in immediate quarantine after their arrival in Addis and how to keep their families safe during the pandemic.
Save a Child’s Heart doctors are working alongside doctors in Addis Ababa to perform lifesaving heart surgeries and catheterizations for Ethiopian children. To date, Save a Child’s Heart has treated more than 5,000 children from 62 countries.
Supported by the Israeli Embassy in Addis Ababa and Mashav (Israel’s Agency for Development Cooperation) Save a Child’s Heart doctors saved over the years the lives of more than 700 Ethiopian children. Every year, around 100-200 Ethiopian children with heart diseases arrive to Israel to receive medical treatment and lifesaving surgeries.
Last year, a mission of 30 heart surgeons from Israel arrived in Addis Ababa and worked at the Cardiac Center of Black Lion Hospital to diagnose children with heart disease and meets their parents waited in line for life-saving cardiac care. By the end of every day, Save a Child’s Heart teams conducted 40 screenings and two catheterizations for Ethiopian children.
