Korea donates test kits, face masks to Ethiopia

 ADDIS ABABA Korean government donated medical supplies for Ethiopia in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.

The Korean embassy in Ethiopia including businesses, NGO and development agencies donated various medical supplies like test kits, face masks, shields and money for the Ministry of Health and Ethiopian Public Health Institute yesterday.

On the occasion, Dr. Liya Tadesse, Minister of Health said it is really pleasure to have received the donation, as test kit and the expansion of testing is a key strategy for mitigating the pandemic.

The Korean government is a strong partner of Ethiopia in areas like maternal and child health, and the Minister appreciated the support on behalf of Ethiopian government.

 Hoon-min Lim, Korea’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, for his part said the COVID-19 pandemic has brought unprecedented level of global coordination, which is indispensable in the fight against it. “Today I am happy to deliver medical items for Ethiopian government to assist their endeavor to prevent and combat covid-19 pandemic.”

In addition to Korean government, a number of Korean companies, NGOs and development agencies voluntarily have continued to support Ethiopia since the pandemic surfaced.

“Today’s contribution is not only Korean government but also the Korean community at all.” South Korea never forgets the sacrifices of Ethiopian during the Korean War, and now both countries are working towards joining hands to fight the new enemy of COVID-19,” he added.
