• 49 million Birr collected from bond as over 400 k subscribe sms fund
ADDIS ABABA – Over 400 thousand Ethiopians have subscribed to the recently launched third round GERD resource mobilization mobile SMS, 8100A. Over 49 million birr has been collected from bond week in less than a month, Public Participation Coordination Office disclosed.
Public Relation Director at Office of National Council for the Coordination of Public Participation on the Construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam Hailu Abreham told The Ethiopian Herald that over 400 thousand Ethiopians subscribed 8100A, mobile SMS for GERD resource mobilization launched soon for the third round.
Hailu said that even at this critical time of COVID-19 pandemic, Ethiopians have continued supporting their flagship project, the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) with SMS, funds and bond.
Hailu reiterated that so far the amount of money contributed through 8100A SMS number passed over 3.4 million Birr and the amount is expected to grow at this time although I have not the updated amount of Birr collected with the SMS.
Meanwhile, Hailu said that over 49 million birr was collected from bond week in less than a month launched following the 9th year anniversary of GERD. He added that the bond week is continued and the participation of the people is growing both in bond and in fund by organizations and persons.
According to Hailu Development Bank of Ethiopia contributed five million, Athletics Federation one million, Waryt Mulu Tila OLC one million, Athlet Derartu Tulu 200 thousand and Athlete Belayneh Dinsamo 100 thousand Birr during the last two weeks in funds to GERD.
Ethiopians should also continue their usual support in parallel with combating the pandemic with the motto of “GERD is my permanent interest, COVID-19 is temporary problem”.
It was learnt that during its 9th anniversary the construction of GERD was reached 72.4 per cent and the public contribution so far exceeded 13 billion Birr.
