ADDIS ABABA – The Ministry of Health said it has been quickly responding to stem the spread of COVID-19 particularly in maximizing testing capacity.
Speaking to The Ethiopian Herald, Public Relations Director at the Ministry of Health Dr.Tegene Regassa said apart from distributing personal protective materials to health institutions, the Ministry is expanding the national testing capacity. The country currently has testing labs in Adama and Mekelle while Bahir Dar, Haromaya, Jimma, Jigjiga, Hawassa and Gondar will have the equipment in the coming days, he said.
He said the Ministry is also aggressively working on raising public awareness which is the key to contain the spread of the virus.
The mandatory 14-day quarantine applicable on people who arrive in Addis Ababa is also helping to halt the spread of the virus, he added.
He also indicated that the Ministry, joining hands with all stakeholders, keeps on strengthening the tasks to boost COVID-19 testing capacity.
