ADDIS ABABA – Grand Ethiopian Reissuance Dam (GERD) Public Participation National Council Coordinating Office said Ethiopians have been actively partaking in the construction of the dam over and over again.
According to Roman Gebreslassie, Public Participation National Council Coordinating Office Head over the last eight months, the office managed to collect 400,000,000 million Birr from the general public including 17 million Birr donations from Ethiopian Diasporas.
In the same way, the office was able to collect 13 Billion Birr to this point from a wide spectrum of people irrespective of age, sexual category, sex, ethnicity and whatnot targeting at smoothing the progress of the construction of the dam in the shortest possible time.
She kept on saying, “The conservation of water and protection of soil works in and around the dam areas has been heading in the right direction. It is crystal clear that Ethiopians leave no stone unturned to make the dam see the light of day in the near future,”
Dr. Eng. Seleshi Bekele, Minister of Water, Irrigation and Energy said the construction of the dam will see the light of day in three years’ time. We will make the dream of Ethiopians become a reality working by the sweat of our brows. No earthly power can stop us from building the dam. We will set in motion the first filling the Renaissance Dam in July.
“The construction of the dam which is the emblem of unity and sovereignty is going in the right direction,” he concluded.
On his part, Engineer Kifle Horo GERD project manager said, “The civil works, electrochemical works, hydraulic steel structures, and other related aspects have been progressing well. Furthermore, 72.4 percent of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance dam is over and done with.
