ADDIS ABABA – In response to government’s appeal, Ethiopia’s private sector has been playing a vital role in making financial and material support that would help the ongoing efforts to contain the spread of corona pandemic (COVID-19).
Several businesses in the capital Addis Ababa and elsewhere in the country try to move as fast as the desire and effort of the government to combat the transmission of the epidemic. The business community has made huge contribution ranging from financial and material support to providing homes, hotels and buildings to quarantine purpose.
The Dutch brewing giant Heineken is among the private companies that are actively involved in the fight against corona pandemic in Ethiopia.
Speaking to The Ethiopian Herald, Heineken External Relations and Sustainability Manager Fekadu Beshah said that the company has been hugely engaged in availing snatiation and hygiene products to the public.
In close partnership with Addis Ababa Health Bureau, the brewing firm has established four washing stations in different parts of the metropolis and distributed 50,000 soaps to Addis Ababa, Harar and Bedele in the total outlay of 550,000 Birr.
Noting that halting the spread of coronavirus should not have left to a single government entity, the manager urged the private sector to help governments’ efforts.
Fekadu expressed Heineken’s desire to consolidate its engagement in community development activities and discharging corporate social responsibility through meaningfully participated in the fight against COVID-19.
