Amsale Gualu

Pilot

Captain Amsale Gualu is an Ethiopian pilot. She became the first female captain in the history of Ethiopia in 2010. Not only she is the first female captain on the Boeing 767, Boeing 777 and Boeing 787 but she is also the second African female pilot to command a Boeing 787.

Taytu Bitul

She is a symbol of all the patriotic qualities of women, In his book “Battle of Adwa: Reflections on Ethiopia’s Historic Victory Against European Colonialism”, Paulos Milkias, said that Empress Taytu was not only known for being a diplomat and stateswoman, but also an ingenious commandant versed in the art of war, a tactician par excellence.

Yetnebersh Nigussie

Lawyer

Yetnebersh Nigussie is a lawyer and disability rights activist from Ethiopia. In 2017, she was awarded the Right Livelihood Award for “her inspiring work promoting the rights and inclusion of people with disabilities, allowing them to realise their full potential and changing mindsets in our societies.”

Bethlehem Tilahun Alemu

Business women

Founder and Executive Director of sole Rebels, Africa’s “fastest growing footwear company”, Bethlehem has received honors and accolades for her business acumen, as well as her efforts to shift the discourse on Africa away from poverty to the continent’s entrepreneurial spirit, social capital, and economic potential. Bethlehem launched “The Republic of Leather”, designing sustainable luxury leather goods, and “Garden of Coffee” retail outlets to promote Ethiopian coffees.

Eleni Gabre-Madhin

Economist

Eleni Zaude Gabre-Madhin(PhD), an Ethiopian economist with Swiss nationality, is a former Chief Executive Officer of the Ethiopia Commodity Exchange. She has had many years of experience working on agricultural markets – particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa – and has held senior positions in the World Bank, the International Food Policy Research Institute (Washington), and United Nations (Geneva).

YalemtsehayMekonnen

She is Professor of Cell and Human Physiology at the College of Natural Sciences at Addis Ababa University (AAU). She has initiated the first Ethiopian Society of Women in Science and Technology. She is the recipient of Gold Medal and Certificate of Recognition from AAU and the African Union Commission (AUC) Kwame Nkrumah Award for excellence in Science for women in 2015. She is the Ambassador Scientist for Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in Ethiopia and has published extensively.
