ADDIS ABABA– Textile and garment products export have brought over 99 million USD to the government coffer in the mid-term of the current fiscal year.
Ethiopian Textile Industry Development Institute Communication Director Bantihun Gesesse told The Ethiopian Herald that the earnings represent an 86 percent performance as the target was to obtain 116 million USD over the period.
However, according to him, when compared with that of the last two consecutive years, the earnings have marked a 30 million USD.
A surge in export items, technical supports offered, and regular supply of the required inputs are ascribable to the improvement of the performance, he added.
Foreign firms have played enormous roles in exporting more products while supplying the same to the local market, he added.
Germany, the U.S., Italy, China, and African countries are among the major export destinations for the Ethiopian garment and textile products.
Nearly 200 textile factors operating all over the country have offered around 100,000 jobs to the youths, it was learned.
