Ethiopian kicks off IATA Cargo handling standards workshop

ADDIS ABABA – The Ethiopian Airlines kicked off yesterday a two-day IATA Workshop on the support of Regional Air Cargo focusing on Cargo Safety and Cargo Handling.

Speaking at the event, IATA cargo Mail and e-Commerce operations Manager, Andre Majeres said the training targets at assisting airlines and cargo handlers to maneuver more effectively together, progress productivity and safety in air cargo.

Deputy Director-General of Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority (ECAA), Shimelis Kibreab said: “Aside from generating trade, promoting tourism and creating employment opportunities, air transport facilities integration into the global economy provides vital connectivity on a national, regional and international level.

When one thinks about global connectivity, high-quality infrastructure is a prerequisite for sustainable economic growth, he added.

For his part, Managing Director at Ethiopian Airlines Aviation Academy, Solomon Debebe said: “The Ethiopian Aviation Academy is as old as the Ethiopian Airlines itself. It is as well one of the most modern and largest aviation training providing a wide spectrum of aviation services.”

The Ethiopian Aviation Academy is being pioneer in aviation training in the region by providing training. It also runs different IATA courses, according to him.

African aviation directors, IATA representatives, partner organizations and stakeholders have been taking part.

The workshop is expected to be concluded today.
