African engineers praise Ethiopia’s water technology trainings

ADDIS ABABA – Water technology creates strong bondage and cooperation between Ethiopia, Japan, Malawi and Nigeria through practice-oriented and outcome-based trainings, Embassy of Japan praised.

Toshio Ida, Deputy Chief of Mission, told The Ethiopian Herald that water technology is one of the sectors that links strong cooperation made between the governments of Ethiopia, Japan, Malawi and Nigeria that aims at scaling up the capacity of water professionals at international level.

“This year, we celebrate 90 years anniversary of diplomatic relations of the two countries. At his moment, the bilateral relations between Ethiopia and Japan are very cordial and well-thought-of. The embassy of Japan is trying very hard to strengthen the various development activities between the two countries,” he said.

As to Toshio, this program has contributed a lot for improvement of trainers’ management skills and builds the confidence of the Ethiopian water technology institute. Since Ethiopia has also suitable investment environment sectors, the two countries are now in good track to learn each other and work together, he noted.

Tamiru Fikadu, Deputy Director General of the Institute, said on his part the trainees have gained new knowledge and skills in maintaining water supply generators. JICA has been supporting the institute to strengthen its capacity in training and operation in management, he added.

State Minister of Water, Irrigation and Energy, Dr.Eng. Negash Wagesho suggested that receiving the training participants from Nigeria, and Malawi should contribute not only to the growth of the institute but also to foster the mutual learning opportunities by exchanging experiences among the three countries.

Alemayehu Gudeta, Institute’s Education and Training Director, disclosed that the Institute has been providing three-week training for about 16 practitioners for the second time; five from Nigeria, five from Malawi and six from Ethiopia.

Alinaya Chirwa and Adewumi Abayomi as participants from Malawi and Nigeria respectively explained that they would be so committed to share their knowledge and skills after exchanging experiences with Ethiopian professionals.
