ADDIS ABABA (FBC) – Ethiopia has announced completion of preparations to host the 33rd African Union (AU) Summit.
The Summit will take place in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa at the AU Headquarters over the weekend, 9th–10th February 2020, under the theme “Silencing the Guns”.
“Ethiopia has made preparation and is ready to host the Summit,” said Gisla Shawl, Protocol Affairs Acting Director General at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Presidents of 31 countries, four prime ministers, foreign ministers of seven nations, three vice presidents and first ladies of 14 countries have confirmed their participation at the Summit, he said.
Prime Ministers of Canada and Norway and President of the State of Palestine are also expected to attend the Summit, according to Acting Director General.
About 8,700 people have so far confirmed their participation in the two-day meeting. The meeting is expected to attract 10,000 guests, Gisla indicated.
The 33rd AU Summit kicked off with the 39th Session of the Permanent Representatives Committee in January 21.
