ADDIS ABABA – New competency-based training has been commenced to public servants prioritizing sectors like manufacturing, agriculture, education and health expertise, said Ethiopian Civil Service University (ECSU).
The shift from the traditional recruitment and training to competency-based one comes following research undertakings the University conducted for the last five years, according to the University’s President Prof. Fikrie Desalegn.
The training is aimed at curbing gaps witnessed among the public sector with the required skillsets, knowledge and thinking, he said, adding competency focus centers will be expanded across the country aiming at making the courses accessible.
Human Resource Head at Government Procurement Agency, Mesifin Mekonon, described the shift as a step forward to facilitate service delivery in the public sector. It is very advantageous to focus on the real problems and meet the problems with the right kind of training, he added.
