ADDIS ABABA – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said the government would provide all the needed supports to improve the productivity of the construction industry.
He made the remark at the 2nd national construction industry forum opened yesterday at ECA under the theme “Competitive Indigenous Construction Industry for Ethiopia’s Prosperity.” Speaking at the event that brought together stakeholders, the prime minister said that the construction industry is one of the engines for the economic growth of a country.
However, “the sector is susceptible to corruption and theft,” he said, adding “it is difficult to bring prosperity unless a corruption-free construction industry is realized.” He said the Government is committed to offer the necessary support to the sector in order to increase its role in the country’s economy for the coming 10 years.
He also called on the construction companies to be free of corruption and do quality works for the growth of the country. The forum, which was organized by the Ministry of Urban Development and Construction, aimed at (MoUDC) to addressing the bottlenecks of the sector, will be wrapped up today.
