• Ethiopia attracts 147 FDI projects from China
ADDIS ABABA–The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Ethiopia disclosed that the 2019 was a successful year in strengthening Ethio-China’s diplomatic relations and in intensifying cooperation to the highest level by 2020.
Briefing the local media yesterday on the diplomatic activities of 2019 and plans for 2020, Chinese Ambassador Tan Jian said notable achievements were registered in Ethiopia and China relations in 2019. The relation of the two countries has grown to a “comprehensive strategic cooperation partnership,” he stated.
Amb. Jian added that “for both China and Ethiopia, 2020 is a promising year as it marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of China-Ethiopia diplomatic ties as well as the 20th anniversary of the inception of FOCAC”. In 2019, the two countries registered notable achievements in political sector including high-level visits, economic, education and capacity building, health and technology sectors among others.
As to him, Ethiopia and China have achieved remarkable progress on the economic sector during the last year. In this regard, the Sheger Beautifying Project, the Ethio-Djibouti Economic Corridor, Chinese Companies participation on the oil and gas project in Somali State, Addis Tomorrow Project, and Addis Ababa Rehabilitation and Upgrading Project are some of the cooperation made between the two countries, he pointed out.
In relation to the investment sector, Ethiopia approved 147 FDI projects from China from January to October 2019, which shows a year-on-year increase over 12 percent, he stated. On technology sector, China assisted Ethiopia in building and launching its first ever satellite in to space; moreover, China’s Alibaba Group also decided to establish Alibaba eWTP Digital Trade Hub in Ethiopia, the Ambassador added.
The Ambassador vowed that the 2019 was a year of profound transformation for Ethiopia with multifaceted efforts of the government in all sectors. Similarly, it was a year of celebration for china since it has warmly celebrated its 70th founding of the People’s Republic of China.
