ADDIS ABABA– The tripartite meeting which was conducted for two consecutive days in Cairo among water ministers of Ethiopia, Sudan and Egypt with regard to the filling and release of water from the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) concluded yesterday.
The two-days meeting was the second round technical talks, and aimed to discuss issues where consensus was not reached during the meeting held on November 15 and 16 in Addis Ababa. In his opening remark, Dr. Eng. Seleshi Bekele, Water, Irrigation and Energy Minister noted that the Dam, for Ethiopia, is a means to tackling poverty and ensuring sustainable development.
The meeting was the second round technical talks. Representatives of the U.S. Government and the World Bank are also attending the meeting as observers.
