• Heads of States and Governments meet today
ADDIS ABABA – IGAD held its 47th regular foreign ministers’ meeting yesterday in Addis. In the meeting, human trafficking, migration and regional security are reported as challenging the region amidst positive changes.
Opening the meeting, the newly hired IGAD Executive Secretary Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu remarked that the region [East Africa] has been able to control many challenges, while a number of problems still contest the region. He also said that solidifying regional cooperation concerted action is needed to end those challenges.
Gedu Andargachew, current Chair Person of IGAD and Foreign Minister of Ethiopia also remarked that IGAD has been working hard on security and regional political issues, and economic cooperation and it has been succeeding a lot. He also called for cooperation among member states.
Member states must be cooperating since African problems should be resolved by Africans themselves, he said. The current chairman said that IGAD will have new structure and a new Chairperson the 13th session of IGAD Heads of States and Governments regular meeting held today.
In the meantime, Gedu has expressed condolences on behalf of IGAD member States on the deaths of Kenyans by landslides last Sunday.
