Airport terminal expansion projects to see completion

ADDIS ABABA – The construction of the 225 million USD Bole International Airport Terminal Expansion Project will be completed in a year and a half, said project General Manager.

Li Xiudong, Project General Manager told The Ethiopian Herald that contract I and VIP terminal expansion of the project are under construction and will be finalized a year and half time.

The project is expected to increase passenger handling capacity to 2.4 million. Bole International Airport is always regarded as “the East Gate of Africa” and “the busiest Airport in East Africa.” The project can make the airport’s status more stable, he said. The project has created around 5,000 job opportunities for citizens so far.

Eskinder Alemu, Acting CEO of Ethiopian Airport Enterprises on his part said contract II of the expansion project  was finalized  and inaugurated. This will increase passenger handling capacity from 7 million to 25 million per annum.

China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) signed a contract agreement for the construction of the Bole International Airport Terminal Expansion in 2012 and started the construction in 2015.

The project fund is a concessional loan type from the Export-Import Bank of China. Liu Yu, Economic and Commercial Minister Counselor of the Chinese embassy in Ethiopia on her part said that the Bole International Airport connects Ethiopian with the world. It is a catalyst and game changer for the economic development of the nation.
