Ethiopia to celebrate first cyber security week
ADDIS ABABA – Information Network Security Agency (INSA) announced that it has foiled 80 percent of the cyber attack attempts against the country during the last fiscal year.
INSA said that cyber security attacks in Ethiopia increased from 59 in 2013 to 791 in 2019 on governmental and private institutions. The Agency has thwarted over 80 per cent of the cyber-attacks during the year, he stated.
The Agency further indicated that it will start celebrating first cyber security week aiming at strengthening the cognitive ability of human power on cyber security.
INSA Deputy Director Worku Gachena told the media yesterday that Ethiopia will start celebrating cyber security week for the first time 4 to 10 November 2019.
According to Worku October is a cyber-security month in the world and countries were celebrated cyber security month for 16 times this year, but Ethiopia is observing the day for the first time.
Since technology, system and human power are the key pillars of cyber securities and 90 per cent of cyber-attacks happened beyond the cognitive ability of human beings. Hence, the aim of the cyber security weak is building national cyber cognitive ability to strengthen the national capacity of cyber security.
The goal is to strengthen cyber security of government and non-governmental institutions by creating awareness and building the cognitive capacity of experts and the cyber usage society, Worku said.
For him cyber-attacks are increasing from year to year due to the growing of digitalization services. He added
Meanwhile INSA’s duty is securing cyber information and information infrastructure. Cyber security conferences, cyber security products and services exhibitions, cyber security awareness creation programs and capacity building discussion with 1100 government and private cyber related institution heads and experts are parts of the celebration.
