Ethiopia plans to produce 382 mln quintal grain

ADDIS ABABA – The Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) announced that Ethiopia has planned to produce 382 million quintals of grain at the national level through ploughing 13.5 million hectares of land in the next production season.

Ministry Crop Development Senior expert Sibhat Temesgen told The Ethiopian Herald, the weather condition occurred over the past two couple of months has had a positive impact on agricultural production. Unless a new incident has occurred, the current situation will enable the country to attain the target.

As they are dependent on the rain fed agricultural activity, developing countries are likely to suffer tremendously from erratic rainfall. However, the adequate rainfall will have greater impact on agricultural productivity and the communities’ livelihood as well.

As to Sibhat, although the desert locusts in the Afar and Somali region are currently being considered as a national disaster , “We are trying to monitoring and spray pesticide using drone.”

Accordingly, the planned agricultural production activity will be met due to adequate rainfall distributions and minimal risks registered so far, he noted.
