Premier, Tinubu win ADA

FDRE Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed and the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu have won the 2019 African Democracy Award, according to the statement released by Association of Political Consultants, Africa (APC Africa) on Tuesday.

According to the statement, the award was conferred on them for their efforts to grow democracy and good governance on the continent at the 4th African Political Summit and Diamond Awards from 9 to 12 September, 2019 in Addis Ababa.

The award, as to the president of APC Africa, Kehinde Bamigbetan, “serves to recognize and encourage icons of democracy and good governance in Africa. It has been our culture to celebrate those political figures who have done a lot to promote democracy in their respective countries.”

He described the Prime Minister as an outstanding leader who had done a lot to strengthen democracy, human rights, press freedom and peace in East Africa.

Bamigbetan said Tinubu was recognized for his commitment to democracy and human rights: “Asiwaju [Tinubu] is a political figure whose impacts have been felt not just in Nigeria, especially with the historic election of President Muhammadu Buhari on the platform of the opposition APC, but also across many countries in Africa,” he added.

APC Africa is a network dedicated to professionalizing the field of political consulting across the continent and promoting good governance, free and fair elections and the empowerment of women and young people.

Each year, it brings together political consultants, media and communication consultants, pollsters, campaign managers, public affairs professionals, fund-raisers, politicians and lobbyists from across Africa to discuss new strategies, technologies and best practices for our industry.
