Ethiopia to host first-ever night run to promote urban tourism

ADDIS ABABA -The Africa Land Day and Night Run (AFLANDAN RUN) has announced plans to host Ethiopia’s first-ever five-kilometer night run in Addis Ababa in the near future.

In an exclusive interview with The Ethiopian Herald, AFLANDAN RUN General Manager Esaias Melese stated that the country’s first night run is launching at an ideal time, as the capital undergoes massive corridor development projects aimed at enhancing its image.

Scheduled for June 7, 2025, the five-kilometer night run aims to promote tourism and support the nation’s socio-economic development, he added.

The event is designed to highlight Addis Ababa’s corridor development initiatives and boost the country’s tourism sector. Additionally, it aims to strengthen sporting activities and encourage young athletes, Esaias noted.

Beyond its economic impact, Esaias emphasized that the national night run would contribute to tourism development and help improve the country’s global image.

He further stressed that the initiative supports national development by promoting corridor development, showcasing the city’s nighttime vibrancy, and enriching the community’s experience. The event is expected to attract between 5,000 and 10,000 participants.

The night run also encourages residents to engage in regular physical activity, with a strong focus on ensuring safety during the nighttime event. The run will feature prominent athletes, senior government officials, ambassadors, foreign visitors, and participants from around the world, according to the General Manager.
