
ADDIS ABABA— In a move signaling deepening economic and strategic ties, Ethiopia’s President Taye Atske Selassie met with Igor Levitin, Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation and Special Representative for International Cooperation in Transport.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of Russia’s commemoration of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War in Moscow. The leaders exchanged views on how to advance bilateral cooperation, with a particular focus on transport infrastructure and regional connectivity.
President Taye highlighted Ethiopia’s ambitious infrastructure development agenda, underscoring the country’s efforts to position itself as a regional logistics hub.
“Ethiopia is one of the fastest-growing economies in Africa. Logistics and transportation are at the heart of our national and regional integration goals,” he said, adding that Russia’s expertise in these sectors presents valuable opportunities for cooperation.
The president reaffirmed Ethiopia’s readiness to work closely with Russia to implement transport and logistics projects that will not only support national development but also enhance trade and integration across East Africa.
For his part, Igor Levitin emphasized Russia’s commitment to strengthening economic engagement with Ethiopia, citing its strategic position in Africa.
“Ethiopia is a key partner for Russia on the continent. We are keen to support your infrastructure ambitions and to collaborate on transport initiatives that benefit the wider region,” he stated.
Igor noted Russia’s experience in logistics development and reaffirmed Moscow’s readiness to contribute to Ethiopia’s regional connectivity goals through new joint projects and investment opportunities.
The meeting reflects a broader trend of growing economic cooperation between the two nations, as both sides work to translate diplomatic goodwill into actionable partnerships in critical sectors.
