Ethiopia is currently undertaking extensive development initiatives across the country. This week,it launched the ambitious Kazanchis Corridor Development Project, which is a transformative urban renewal effort designed to revitalize and transform the urban landscape of Addis Ababa.
This project encompasses a wide range of activities, including the construction of new roads, bridges, parks, commercial and residential buildings, as well as the improvement of existing infrastructure such as water and sanitation systems.
Moreover, one of the key objectives of the Kazanchis CorridorDevelopment project is to create a well-planned and integrated urban environment that caters to the needs of all residents. “A few months ago, the appearance of Kazanchis was vastly different from what we see today. It was unsuitable for living, filthy and unsanitary”, the Prime Minister stated.
Kazanchis now stands as a testament to the rewards of hard work and collective progress. Undertakings of this scale require substantial effort, and while they may bring temporary inconveniences, the necessary sacrifices were made in pursuit of the greater good, the Premier added.

Such progress must continue, for it carries with it renewed hope—especially for the future of our children.
“Just a few days ago, during the Easter holiday, we visited residents who were relocated from Kazanchis to Gelan Gura, a more conducive environment, reflecting our unwavering commitment to ensuring dignified living conditions for our communities. Their new living conditions have been significantly improved compared to their previous living environment. They now have access to learning, recreational, and dining facilities for their children. Those I spoke with confirmed that their current situation is much better than the previous,”Abiy said.
Abiy added that seeing Kazanchis in its current state is a significant achievement for us and a source of pride for our people. “The transformation of Kazanchis should be viewed from the perspective of self-respect and how others perceive us,” the Prime Minister emphasized.
The Premier also addressed the positive feedback from international visitors, who have been impressed by Addis Ababa’s rapid development. “The comments we received from foreign visitors are encouraging. They see a city with hope and a foundation for smart city development”, he said. He also urged the leadership to avoid complacency and continuously strive for progress.
“Vision is essential, but hard work is required to make it a reality. “We must not rest on our laurels but continue to dream and work towards the next vision. If we work diligently, Ethiopia will emerge stronger, and our children will not have to endure the hardships we have faced”, he said.
