Ethiopia is optimistic about completing its accession process of joining the World Trade Organization (WTO) by 2026, with approval anticipated at the Cameroon conference. The Ethiopian government plans to conclude the WTO accession process at the 14th Ministerial Conference (MC14) to be held in Yaoundé in March 2026.
The number of inquiries by member states of the WTO to Ethiopia shows a substantial decrease during the fifth round of negotiations, decreasing to 110, and Ethiopia will provide a comprehensive written response to the questions by May 2025.
After the comprehensive response and next meetings, Ethiopia is expected to finalize its full membership by March 2026. The Minister of Ethiopia has been actively pursuing WTO accession processes since 1999, with observer status since 2003.
