Ethiopia, Morocco to establish commission to deepen ties

ADDIS ABABA—The establishment of a joint commission between Ethiopia and Morocco is progressing, marking a significant step towards deepening bilateral relations, according to the Moroccan Ambassador to Ethiopia.

In an exclusive interview with The Ethiopian Herald, Ambassador Nezha Alaoui M’hammdi stated that the joint commission will enhance strategic dialogue and cooperation. Both countries have been actively working on this initiative, recognizing its importance in strengthening diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties.

The Ambassador emphasized that the commitment from the highest levels of leadership in both nations reflects a shared vision of fostering closer cooperation in key areas such as trade, investment, education, and security. The commission will serve as a structured platform for coordinating joint projects, addressing mutual challenges, and exploring new avenues of partnership.

“We are optimistic that the first session of the joint commission will be organized in the coming months, bringing together officials and experts from both countries to set the stage for a new era of collaboration,” she said.

The goal of the joint commission is to create a dynamic and action-oriented mechanism that strengthens Ethiopia-Morocco relations in a sustainable and impactful manner. “This initiative underscores our shared commitment to enhancing South-South cooperation and working together towards common development goals,” she added.

Regarding potential areas of bilateral relations, the Ambassador highlighted several promising sectors that remain to be fully explored. These include the digital economy and technology, water resource management and climate adaptation, as well as tourism and aviation.
