
ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has generated1.16 billion USD in revenue from coffee and spice exports over the first seven months of the current fiscal year, according to the Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority (ECTA).
The country exported 233,340.41 tons of coffee and spices, exceeding its target of 805.56 million USD from 156,190.21 tons. This represents a significant increase compared to the same period last year, with a 383.47 million USD (61%) rise in revenue and a 96,780.89 ton (71%) increase in export volume.
Coffee exports dominated, generating 1.11 billion USD from 223,046.04 tons, surpassing the planned 797.07 million USD from 147,987.11 tons. This translates to a 383.42 million USD (61%) increase in revenue and a 91,861.39 ton (70%) increase in volume compared to last year.
The top export destinations for Ethiopian coffee were Saudi Arabia (180.82 million USD, 18% of total revenue and 41,807.94 tons, 19% of volume), Germany (176.58 million USD, 17% of revenue and 41,711.94 tons, 19% of volume), and Belgium (95.67 million USD, 9% of revenue and 20,002.19 tons, 9% of volume).
The United States, South Korea, the United Arab Emirates, Japan, China, Jordan, and Italy were also significant importers of Ethiopian coffee, ranking fourth through tenth. These top ten countries accounted for 77% of the total hard currency earned and 76% of the export volume. Compared to the same period last year, these countries increased their imports by 60% in revenue and 70% in volume.
