The Wonchi, Gorgora, and Halala Kella tourism projects have been accomplished successfully through the Dine for Nation initiative led by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD). Like other projects, the Wonchi Dendi integrated ecotourism project is attracting the attention of both local and foreign tourists.

Wonchi-Dendi integrated ecotourism, which is one of the projects executed under the “Dine for Nation” initiative and designed to protect the natural resources in the area, has opened a significant chapter in increasing the economic capacity of the local residents and to the whole country.

Highlighting the preparations made to enable residents benefit from guiding, boating, sales, and hospitality as well as rent, the Project Coordinator said activities carried out to integrate the project with the communities have brought successful change. Currently, the residents are ready to benefit from the project by organizing themselves into 22 associations. As part of the project houses of 13 farmers, which were built in the area, are readied to serve tourists.

Project coordinator also said that integrating the community as part of the project has enabled them to develop a sense of ownership and protect the natural resource without displacing them from the area.

It is recalled that the Wonchi-Dendi Project was an initiative of PM Abiy Ahmed launched in 2021 and this project is built taking into consideration protecting the environment and the surrounding communities. Accordingly, it has improved the livelihood of about 10,000 residents by creating job opportunities.

Gorgora Eco Resort is the other blessing Ethiopia provided to nature lovers. Nestled on the northern shores of Lake Tana, the largest lake in Ethiopia, lies the magnificent Gorgora Eco Resort, an exquisite blend of nature, luxury, and history. Spanning 40 hectares of dense forested land, this eco-friendly haven is a masterpiece of architecture and creativity. Accessible by car from Gondar, by boat from Bahir Dar, or even by helicopter with its two on-site helipads, Gorgora Eco Resort promises a unique and memorable experience for  all who visit. This resort is part of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s “Dine for the Nation” initiative, aimed at promoting tourism and preserving Ethiopia’s cultural heritage.

Gorgora Eco Resort is built in a way that allows it to thrive while preserving the cultural and historical significance of the area. Visitors can indulge in luxury and comfort while being enveloped in the rich history and culture of Gorgora. Whether you’re seeking relaxation, adventure, or a mix of both, Gorgora Eco Resort offers an unforgettable experience that seamlessly blends nature, luxury, and heritage.

Gorgora is more than just a resort; it’s a portal to Ethiopia’s rich past. Once the capital city, during the reigns of Emperor Susenyos I and his son Fasilides, Gorgora offered a striking tropical vibe for history buffs and travelers alike. The town is named after the 4th-century Saint Gregory the Illuminator, a significant figure in Ethiopian Orthodox Theology. Visitors can explore monasteries like Debre Sina Church, built in 1608, which boasts beautiful frescos and a thatch roof, lending it an ancient feel. The Mandaba Medhane Alem monastery, established by Tsadiku Abune Asay, is another gem, renowned for its miraculous stone boat legend and ancient biblical manuscripts.

Gorgora Eco Resort is equipped with a variety of amenities designed to cater to all interests. Guests can enjoy an outdoor amphitheater, a swimming pool, a children’s playground, a fruit garden, a tennis court, a plant nursery, shops, a cafeteria, and camping sites. The standout feature of the resort is the floating dock and port, which enhances its unique appeal.

Gorgora Eco Resort boasts two presidential luxury villas, complete with accompanying rooms for security and personnel, as well as an array of deluxe and bungalow suites. These accommodations are nestled among manicured gardens, all with the crystal-clear waters of Lake Tana as a stunning backdrop. The bungalows utilize lime mortar stone masonry, a technique employed for centuries in the construction of churches and castles in Gondar, adding a touch of historical significance to their design.

For those looking to host meetings or retreats, the resort offers Tana Hall, a multi-purpose meeting hall equipped with state-of-the-art audio-visual technology, capable of hosting over 500 guests. The spa facilities at Gorgora Eco Resort include a Jacuzzi, sauna, steam, hamam, and a special traditional smoke treatment called “Wayiba Chis” providing a perfect blend of relaxation and cultural experience.

The resort’s carefully laid-out gardens feature an infinity swimming pool that visually extends into Lake Tana, giving visitors the sensation of swimming in the lake itself. Additionally, the resort has an artificial sand beach and a shallow pool with fountains. A unique landscape feature is the fish hatchery, which plays a crucial role in preserving the 17 white fish species found only in Lake Tana, serving as both a conservation effort and a tourist attraction.

Besides its mesmerizing beauty, Gorgora has also a significant place in Ethiopian history. From the monumental Mussolini’s Monument, a towering structure with carvings symbolizing Rome’s rule, to Gorgora Nova, representing the dawn of stone construction in the area. Emperor Susenyos’ Old Palace, now in ruins, and the Portuguese Cathedral, built in 1621, offer glimpses into the past with their regal columns, archways, and frescoes. Nearby monasteries like Galila Monastery and Birgida Maryam provide serene escapes with their ancient artifacts and beautiful jungle surroundings.

While enjoying the natural beauty of Gorgora, visitors will also wonder with the Tana Mariana, a mini Gorgora setup developed to mirror the grandeur of the main resort. Offering a preview of what tourists will experience at Gorgora Eco Resort, the Tana Marina features presidential suites, entertainment centers, a gym and spa, and a dock overlooking Lake Tana, which serves as a port for ships commuting to the main resort.

Another perfect place to take a breather and rejuvenating one`s soul is Halala Kella. Halala Kella is the most relaxing attraction site that has been developed under Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s “Dine for Nation” initiative. This tourist site constitutes the larger Koysha project, to capitalize on the natural endowments of the area so as to expand greenery attraction sites across the nation.

Apart from its state of the art hotel services, the Halala is equipped with recreational facilities including spas, swimming pools and playground equipment. Someone who stands at the highest place of the resort can have a panoramic view of the verdant landscape of the area which is endowed with nature’s endless beauty.

As indicated by the Prime Minister, Halala Kella, an attraction site in Dauro Zone, is an ideal place to take a breath and open one’s mind to many activities. “Dauro is one of the tranquil places with peaceful environment.” Lose no time to visit such a spectacular site.

While launching the first phase of the Halala Kella cluster section of the Koysha National Project on 21 February 2021, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed described the site as a captivating place with breathtaking scenery and dynamic history and culture.
