
ADDIS ABABA – The Ministry of Innovation and Technology (MinT) revealed that about 490 startups have recently entered Ethiopia’s global ecosystem.
MinT Startup Development Lead Executive Officer Selamyihun Adefris told the Ethiopian Press Agency (EPA) that in its recent deep valuation assessment, the Ethiopian deal room global platform (system) verified that about 490 startups have merged to the Ethiopian global startup ecosystem.
He further reiterated that the government has been revising policies and creating enabling environment aiming to empower and nurture competent startups.
Noting the presence of an average of 1,500 emerging startups, he mentioned that the number of interested and potential startups coming to the global startup platform is growing from time to time.
The system, which is equipped with a multifaceted assessment mechanism, assists problem-solving innovative ideas that help shaping and transforming technological advancements and other investment friendly businesses.
He firmly advocated the potential developers to provide withvaluable data and proposals to the system to generate more jobs and impactful startups.
When the draft startup’s proclamation came into effect, Selamyihu underscored it would be helping to screen out impactful startups with their innovative ideas and address challenges that hinder the startups development.
According to him, wide-ranges of activities are currently being undertaken to scale up the participation of emerging innovators in the ecosystem.
“The ministry has also set plans to strengthen the capacities of developers with their problem-solving and business-centered innovative ideas and promoting their global competitiveness,” he added.
According to the 2023 Startup Blink Global Startup Ecosystem Index, Ethiopia’s startup ecosystem is experiencing steady growth, solidifying its position globally.
